Visual Glycemic Gauges: See Low, Medium and High GI at a Glance
SugarHigh shows a 0 to 100 glycemic index gauge so you can see where a food sits in the low, medium or high GI band.
A 0 to 100 gauge shows where a food sits in the low, medium or high GI band, so you do not have to memorise the cut-offs while you are looking at a plate.
The bands on the gauge
| Band | GI range |
|---|---|
| Low | 55 or less |
| Medium | 56 to 69 |
| High | 70 or more |
These bands follow the Diabetes Canada GI Food Guide ranges used across SugarHigh food pages.
Why a gauge helps
Numbers alone are easy to skim past. A visual band makes the difference between rolled oats (55) and instant oats (79) obvious in one glance. Pair the gauge with glycemic load when portion size matters. See GI vs GL.
FAQ
What does the gauge measure?
Estimated or sourced glycemic index on a 0-100 scale.
Is medium GI “bad”?
Not by itself. GI is one signal; portion size and the rest of the meal still matter.
